About the Scholarship Opportunity
The PhD position is part of the Collaborative Research Centre 1403 (CRC1403), focusing on cell death mechanisms related to immunity, inflammation, and disease. This multidisciplinary consortium aims to uncover the regulatory pathways controlling cell death in immune responses, inflammation, and host-microbe interactions.
The successful applicant will join the project “Cell death signaling peptides in maize immunity – Molecular mechanisms of signal generation, transduction, and perception.” This is a highly collaborative environment with teams working across plant and human disease systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Identify peptide signals involved in cell death in maize plants.
- Study the role of phytocytokines in danger and survival signals.
- Investigate the role of plant proteases in regulating cell death.
- Collaborate with project partners to explore cell death regulation across different plant systems and its implications for human diseases.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- MSc in Biology or a related field with experience in molecular plant biology.
- Knowledge in protein biochemistry, and transcriptome/proteome profiling.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- A passion for plant-microbe interactions is essential.
