What is CSS in Pakistan?
The Central Superior Services (CSS) Exam is Pakistan’s most prestigious competitive examination, conducted annually by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) in Islamabad. It aims to recruit candidates for BS-17 positions across various federal government departments, including:

CSS Requirements (Latest Eligibility Criteria)
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of Pakistan or a permanent resident of Azad Jammu & Kashmir / Gilgit-Baltistan
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (minimum second division). Third division allowed if Master’s degree has higher division
- Attempt Limit: Maximum of 3 attempts per candidate
What is the CSS age limit?
The CSS age limit is 21 to 30 years on the cut-off date specified by FPSC each year. However, a two-year age relaxation is available for certain candidates, including those working in the public sector for at least two years or those belonging to backward or tribal areas, making them eligible up to 32 years of age.
CSS Exam Schedule & Registration Timeline
Every year, CSS is conducted in four stages:
- MPT (MCQ-based Preliminary Test), usually held in October
- Written Exam typically starts from mid-February
- Medical Examination
- Psychological Assessment & Viva Voce
